How to a create 5-star donor experience

What is a 5-star donor experience?

Here's the secret:

  • Telling people how they have changed lives with the story of one human

  • Repeat

It's not too hard to stand out these days because while so many nonprofits might seem shiny and impressive on the outside, their donor experience is inconsistent and sucks.

Elevating the Donor Experience

They ramp up their donor relations when they know they are about to ask for more money.

Blegh.

If you want to deliver a 5-star experience, just do a few things and make it personal and make it your own:

  • Share quick, to-the-point stories of one human and how their life changed

  • Get 1:1 meetings and get to know people - connect as humans

  • Write handwritten thank you notes when they donate and when they give their time

That's it.

Consistency is Key

Most nonprofits do that in spurts but don't execute on that consistently over time.

The boring stuff raises more money.

Just continue to connect with people, report back how they made a difference, and thank them.

Keep them in the loop.

It isn't complicated. It's simple.

Not easy to do over the course of time.

People have lots of reasons why they don't have time to do this, but if you don't make time, you won't be in business for much longer. Don't learn this the hard way.
