7 Reasons To Ask For More Right Now
I've compiled 7 reasons to motivate you to ask for more.
My agenda? I want you to go to a potential donor or current one and ask them for a gift. 😬
7 Reasons To Ask For More Right Now:
You can change the world faster.
That change that you want to see? The injustice you wanna end? The children who need a mentor? The marginalized community who you know deserves better? Let's create the world where all are equal and fairly treated. Let's not wait any longer to make that a reality. Asking for more makes that future a reality today.
You can increase your pay and pay your team more.
This is tough, but it's true: How can we say that we address injustice and not pay our team a living wage? How can we say we restore dignity of human beings and yet take for granted the people who build the dignity-restoring program? (I include fundraisers in that, FYI. People forget, fundraisers are program folks too. If they weren't, they'd be in corporate sales, but that's a discussion for another day.) Bottom line: Our half-assed fundraising efforts actually undermine the integrity of our mission. Do you see that connection?
You will have greater peace of mind.
There is a peace that comes when you raise more than you need, not just "enough". What is the value of peace to you?
You can improve the quality of what you do.
You know with more funding you can actually get *better* at what you do, right? You can invest in your development EVEN MORE, you can invest in upgrading the experience your program participants have, you can grow your team--you have more options in general.
You can increase the number of people you serve.
Some of you have waitlists. You have people literally waiting for a program that you deliver that will change the trajectory of their lives. And the way to unlock that future for them is hinging on whether you will ASK FOR MORE. When would be a good time to prioritize that?
You will gain some damn SELF RESPECT.
How PROUD will you be if you ask for more?! You will feel a sense of "Wow, I did that!" Even if you don't get a yes. How do you feel when you do something that's risky, scary and you don't feel ready, but you go for it anyway? You feel amazing! You see that it's possible. That you can do it again. And get even better at it. Courage is a muscle. Some of you don't trust yourself because you keep saying you WILL do something and you don't do it. When would be a good time to trust yourself and go for it?
You will be doing your job.
You know it's your job, right? Not when you feel like it. Not when you're "ready". Not when you're in the mood. It's your job to ask for more. Do your job. Do it well. Even when you're afraid or don't feel ready. The world is depending on you to do your job. When you took this job, you made a promise. You are making that promise everyday. Keep that promise. You got this!
